Teen Depression, Suicide and Cutting
If you have read the latest "Seventeen" magazine, then you have probably seen the article about the guy who hung himself. As I was reading this article, I thought to myself, "How could someone do this?"
Depression is a serious medical problem. It can be caused by rape, abuse, an ending relationship, friendship problems, the death of a lover one, and many other things. Anyone of any age can get depressed.
Depression can cause cutting, a form of self injury. People who do this often take a sharp object, such as a razor or a knife and press it deep into their arm, wrist, or thigh until they bleed. I have a friend who goes to a middle school where cutting is basically a trend which everyone follows. Yeah, Katie, that is the sickest trend I have ever heard of. I have tried cutting before, but it didn't help my problems whatsoever.
Suicide is a permenant solution to a temporary problem. It is the third leading cause of death to people ages thirteen to eighteen. Forms of suicide include slitting the wrists, hanging, jumping off buildings or other tall things, and overdosing on perscription pills. People who have attempted suicide need help. I have been suicidal and I have friends that have attempted suicide.
Most people who are depressed, cutting, or are suicidal are crying for attention. They feel unloved and scared. I am speaking from experience. I recently was brought to the Crisis center at the emergency room for being suicidal. I have a few friends that have cut themselves before. I realized that I needed help, and I am now seeing a therapist. My friends don't see that they need help. I try hard, but they won't listen. If you have a friend who is suicidal, depressed, or a cutter, talk to him/her. Get them help. The last thing that anyone wants to see is their best friend in a coffin. If you are suicidal, find help. If you think no one cares, remember that I do care about you. Treasure your life and treasure your dreams!
