Indie, Progressive, Experimental British Punk or just Rock, four- piece Manifestos distinctive sound continues to elude categorisation. Equally as hard to categorise as their songs are to forget, Manifesto are a band who never stops going from strength to strength. The two sets of northern brothers that are Manifesto, formed at the beginning of 2003 with little more than a drum stick between them. Theirs is a classic story of start a band and learn how to play and it is from learning the hard way, with determination and time, that Manifesto have developed into a band with a special bond and an undeniable edge to their music. Always ambitious and never satisfied with learning a set full of covers, Manifesto would begin their history with a long stint in the studio, preparing a strong set of original material before heading out to do any gigs. A tour of local youth clubs, towards the end of 2003, would be Manifestos first challenge. However, always having confidence and belief in their music right from the beginning, would ensure that the tough crowds were easily won over. Throughout 2004 Manifesto would concentrate heavily on York, playing at a multitude of venues and building upon their fan base. They would also build heavily upon their set, with their sound maturing and getting much tighter than it ever had been before. Manifestos constant determination to better themselves means that they are not a band who just writes a set of songs and leaves it at that. They are always writing new material and constantly working at their set, meaning that they are always developing and crafting their sound for the better. Manifestos success would continue into 2005, with a whole host of good reviews, and gigs being offered to them left, right and centre. As well as continuing to impress in a live situation, Manifesto also decided that it was time to record their first EP. Recording and producing it themselves, over a three month period, it was ready in time for their self organised and very successful EP launch at Certificate 18 in June. Manifestos success in York would bring them attention, and the strength of their music and organisation of their own gig attracted Leeds based promoters, who would offer them gigs at many of Leeds prestigious venues such as The Cockpit, The Vine, The Mixing Tin and The New Roscoe. The continued gigging experience and growing fan base throughout 2005 would see Manifesto write more cohesive and focused songs than ever before. Eager to get these songs recorded, the band would return to the studio at the beginning of 2006 to work with a professional producer, at Huddersfields well known HD1 Studios With a remarkable new EP and a large set of tight and focused songs, Manifesto look set to go further than ever in 2006, success has already started to come their way with progression to the late stages of two separate Battle of The Bands competitions in York and interest from an Independent Record label and Publishing Company. Keep an eye out for Manifesto and catch them while you can, this band is going far!
