Bands and Artists you might not have heard of...
Welcome to the Band review section of the site. Well I say reviews, but reviews are kinda bad don't you think? They tell you what to think... and that isn't cool! We want you to make your own mind up, so instead think of it as more of a platter of different bands... much like seafood. Take a look at what you want, there are live recordings and videos and a little bit of information too... Don't judge until you've listened, there is a wide range of music here, including hip-hop, indie... If you have a review of a band that you would like to submit, then contact me.

Below are some short snippets of information about some smallish/mediumish bands who will easily make it big!

Subtle is an Oakland, California based sextet, home recording its way to the far side of song. Since it’s genesis in 2001 they’ve recorded their first full length, “A New White” (for Lex Records) and the four season EPs (Unfortunately now out of print!) With one electronic drummer, one kit drummer, electric cello, 3 keyboards, 3 samplers, guitar, wind, and words, Subtle fashions a self sampled and live mic’d genre non-specific music. To which the terms rock, hip-hop, and electronic all apply. Their songs are made from re-sampled and re-approached improvisation. The poems there in are read, rapped, sung and meant by Adam ‘Doseone’ Drucker and his multi-tracked self. In the autumn of 2004 Subtle hit the road indefinitely, stopping only to sleep, eat, live and record their next record… “For Hero: For Fool”, which will be out on the 2nd October on EMI/Lex, followed by the single “The Mercury Craze” on the 16th October also on EMI/Lex. |

Mr Hudson’s musical style has been described as a cross-pollination of hip-hop and reggae beats with some good old fashioned song writing (Reminds me a bit of my old band that kinda made it big in driffield... none of you probably knew about us, you know, not coming from driffield). Bored of guitar music Mr. Hudson sought inspiration from old vinyl’s and began to put his musical mind to work.
Mr. Hudson And The Library are currently working on their 1st studio album, but are in the mean time releasing a 4 track EP on Deal Real Records on the 16th October, which will be limited to 500 copies in CD and 7” format. To support its release Mr. Hudson and The Library will be doing a UK tour in various Libraries followed by shows supporting Vincent Vincent and Les Incompetents.

Formed out of 'the shed' Rievaulx in late 2003. One Night Only have began to spread the word accross North Yorkshire. Since the addition of Jack in 2004, the more mature sound is apparent.

Superfuzz
Superfuzz are a recently formed band they have only played a few gigs so far, but they have gone really well. Tom Hilton the front man of the band give a really entreating performance with his wacky stage antics, powerful voice and high quality guitar playing. Danny Knowles on guitar, Will Illingworth on bass and Sam Knowles on drums back him up. Danny is a very good, consistent guitarist throwing out awesome riffs and powerful solos. Will is a guitarist/bassist extraordinaire adding more fun to an already blistering set. And on the drums there is Sam Knowles a small comedic talented drummer. At the moment Superfuzz are playing covers accompanied by their own songs, which are to a very high standard they have, plenty more hammering songs on the way. As a band they have the potential to become one of the biggest bands in the area success is imminent. They are really worth going to see.

'Like Elbow with bigger beards and better dreams' NME
With little care or respect for the latest music-fad, the core of the FDH ethos is timeless, intelligent and passionate song-writing. The importance of this is reflected in what has influenced them; glimpsed in early Genesis or Bowie; in Scott Walker or Nick Drake; in Prefab Sprout, Tears for Fears or REM. Their modern equivalents might be The Frames or Elbow; or Death Cab for Cutie; or what Keane would be like if they had bigger balls. Eclectic to be sure, but gripping and passionate...
